I made a pre-order of spring bulbs from Boston Bulbs on 2nd June, it was due for delivery sometime in September & today was the day- exciting times. All bulbs were in excellent condition on arrival & I’ve been busy planting immediately. This is what arrived:

Planted today
Allium Azureum (Caeruleum) Bulbs (50)
Bedding Hyacinth Delft Blue Bulbs (25)
Bedding Hyacinth City of Haarlem Bulbs (25)
Iris Reticulata Mixed Bulbs (50)
Tulip Specie Sylvestris Bulbs (50)
All of the above were planted in the blue-purple/ yellow- orange bed near the door, it is a raised bed of almost waist height that is adjacent to three steps that take you up into the garden; so the hyacinths & wild tulips should provide a lovely fragrance to greet me as I open the door.
Still to plant
Allium Gladiator Bulbs (5)
Allium Globemaster Bulbs (10)
Allium Tall Mixed Bulbs (100)
Allium Red Mohican Bulbs (10)
Allium Schubertii Bulbs (20)
Anemone Nemorosa (Wood Anemone) Bulbs (100)
Camassia Leichtlinii Alba Bulbs (50)
Camassia Leichtlinii Blue Bulbs (50)
Camassia Quamash Bulbs (50)
Fritillaria Imperialis Lutea Bulbs (10)
Fritillaria Imperialis Rubra Bulbs (10)
Narcissus Lobularis Bulbs (250)
Narcissus Silver Chimes (50)
Tulip Fosteriana Easter Parade Bulbs (25)
I’m particularly looking forward to moving towards the Narcissus Lobularis & Tulip Specie Sylvestris.
Narcissus Pseudonarcissus Lobularis (Lent Lily) is the wild daffodil, it will naturalise & self seed, it can take up to 2 years from the bulbs I’ve bought to reach their full flowering potential, but that is fine, we talk regularly about gardening developing & furthering our patience. This wild daffodil is a slight plant with half nodding flowers & long grey / green leaves.
Staying on this theme, Tulip Specie Sylvestris, is the Wild Tulip. Again it will naturalise, spreading by underground stolons (it is said to be quite vigorous). It is a dainty plant that was first recorded in northern Italy (Bologna) in the 16th Century but it has now become naturalised throughout Europe. It is happy in full fun or dappled shade & is noted for its scent.
Boston Bulbs are based in Spalding, Lincolnshire, it is great to find a business that appreciates your custom & rewards loyalty instantaneously ( so many businesses now do offers to attract new customers but offer nothing to thank those who have continued to spend with them). They believe your loyalty deserves rewarding & so any returning orders on your account in a two year period automatically gets you a 10% discount. How fabulous is that?
