Brunnera Alchemy Pewter

Brunneras are a good alternative to hostas as the slugs & snails are not attracted to them! They are brilliant perennials for ground cover in shadier areas of the garden, & form spreading clumps.

This Brunnera has pewter coloured heart shaped leaves with dark veins, which is particularly evident on the new leaves. It is fantastic interest for partial to fully shaded areas & in spring it grows longer stems with sprays of small blue flowers similar to forget-me-nots, (you can get Brunneras with white flowers too but it is more common for them to have blue).

I cut those stems right back immediately after flowering as this seems to promote not only more leaf growth but larger leaves. It spreads to about 60cm & grows to a height of approx 40cm.

I bought mine from Reighton Nurseries a family run garden centre for over 50 years, I’ve used it for years & I am always happy with the quality & value of plants, & lately I’ve been even more impressed with some of the more varied plants they’ve started to stock. I’ll tell you more about those on upcoming posts.
