This perennial was easy to grow from seed & is an absolute blaze of hot summertime colour in fiery shades of orange, yellow & red I have in a ‘hot’ bed that moves from red closer to the house through to more yellow tones further away. Gorgeous large flower heads for the overall size of the plant make good cut flowers too. With deadheading, it blooms from June until November & is happy to be divided. This is one of three clumps from a plant a had sown last year. Once established it copes well with dry soils & is reasonably drought tolerant so is a good one to consider for future planting with our changing climate.

One thing though, it is also known as Blanket Flower, I presume because of its spread being more than its height, but blanket had connotations of ‘snow’ and ‘cold’ for me, one thing this plant certainly isn’t!
I’ve also got some Gaillardia Aristata Bicolour Goblin seeds which I’ve not sown yet from my favourite seed company Premier Seeds Direct which are similar: a flame crimson with slightly narrower edges of yellow - looking forward to that one to compare the two.
